The Power of Money

Some of you may already know that I travel around the region pretty frequently, having to visit and conduct seminars at my offices in Malaysia , Indonesia , Thailand and Suzhou (China ). I am in the airport almost every other week so I get to bump into many people who have attended my seminars or have read my books.

Recently, someone came up to me on a plane to KL and looked rather shocked. He asked, 'How come a millionaire like you is travelling economy?'  My reply was, 'That's why I am a millionaire. ' He still looked pretty confused.

This again confirms that greatest lie ever told about wealth (which I wrote about in my latest book 'Secrets of Self Made Millionaires' ). Many people have been brainwashed to think that millionaires have to wear Gucci, Hugo, Boss, Rolex, and sit on first class in air travel. This is why so  many people never become rich because the moment that earn more money, they think that it is only natural that they spend more, putting them back to square one.

The truth is that most self made millionaires are frugal and only spend on what is necessary and of value. That is why they are able to accumulate and multiply their wealth so much faster.

Over the last 7 years, I have saved about 80% of my income while today I save only about 60% (because I have my wife, mother in law, 2 maids, 2 kids, etc. to support).  Still, it is way above most people who save 10% of their income (if they are lucky).

I refuse to buy a first class ticket or to buy a $300 shirt because I think that it is a complete waste of money. However, I happily pay $1,300 to send my 2 year old daughter to Julia Gabriel Speech and Drama without thinking twice.

When I joined the YEO (Young Entrepreneur' s Orgn) a few years back (YEO) is an exclusive club open to those who are under 40 and make over $1m a year in their own business. I discovered that those who were self made thought like me.  Many of them with net worth well over $5m,travelled economy class and some even drove Toyota 's and Nissans,not Audis, Mercys, BMWs..

I noticed that it was only those who never had to work hard to build their own wealth (there were also a few ministers' and tycoons' sons in the club) who spent like there was no tomorrow. Somehow, when you did not have to build everything from scratch, you do not really value money. This is precisely the reason why a family's wealth (no matter how much) rarely lasts past the third generation.

Thank God my rich dad foresaw this terrible possibility and refused to give me a cent to start my business.

Then some people ask me, 'What is the point in making so much money if you don't enjoy it?' The thing is that I don't really find happiness in buying branded clothes, jewellery or sitting first class.  Even if buying something makes me happy it is only for a while, it does not last.

Material happiness never lasts, it just give you a quick fix. After a while you feel lousy again and have to buy the next thing which you think will make you happy. I always think that if you need material things to make you happy, then you live a pretty sad and unfulfilled life..

Instead, what makes me happy is when I see my children laughing and playing and learning so fast. What makes me happy is when I see my companies and trainers reaching more and more people every year in so many more countries.

What makes me really happy is when I read all the emails about how my books and seminars have touched and inspired some one's life.

What makes me really happy is reading all your wonderful posts about how this blog is inspiring you. This happiness makes me feel really good for a long time, much much more than what a Rolex would do for me.

I think the point I want to put across is that happiness must come from doing your life's work (be it teaching, building homes, designing,trading,winning tournaments etc.) and the money that comes is only a by-product. If you hate what you are doing and rely on the money you earn to make you happy by buying stuff, then I think that you are living a life of meaninglessness.

In God we trust!

GPS

Ada saatnya kita menoleh ke belakang dan melihat bahwa kita telah kehilanngan sebuah kesempatan yang Tuhan berikan.

Pernah menggunakan GPS ?! GPS menghitung jalur terbaik dr satu lokasi ke lokasi lain. Mungkin saja krn satu dan lain hal pandangan kita teralih, dan kehilangan kesempatan mengikuti GPS, tp tidak berarti kita kehilangan arah. Sistem GPS akan menghitung berdasarkan lokasi kita sekarang.

Tuhan bekerja dengan cara yang sama. Ia memberikan arah dan menuntun kita, bahkan saat kita kehilangan petunjuk"Nya. Ia akan mengembalikan jalur kita ketempat semestinya kita berada..

Jangan biarkan kesempatan yang hilang membuat kita kecewa dan patah semangat. Tuhan lebih besar dibandingkan kesempatan" yang hilang.

Tuhan memberkati :)

Seberapa Lama Akar Itu Tertanam...!?

Pada suatu hari seorang tua yang bijaksana berjalan melalui hutan bersama seorang muda yang terkenal tidak bertanggung jawab dan kepala batu.

Orang tua itu menghentikan langkahnya, lalu menunjuk sebuah pohon yang masih kecil. "Cabutlah pohon itu," katanya. Segera pemuda itu membungkuk, dan hanya dengan dua jari saja ia dengan mudah dapat mencabut pohon itu.

Setelah berjalan lebih jauh lagi, orang tua itu berhenti di depan sebuah pohon yang agak besar. "Coba cabut pohon ini," katanya. Sekali lagi pemuda itu menuruti perimtahnya, namun kali ini dia menggunakan kedua tangannya dan dengan sekuat tenaga mencabut akar pohon itu.

Akhirnya, mereka berhenti lagi di depan sebuah pohon yang sangat besar. "Sekarang, cabutlah pohon ini!" perintahnya lagi.
"Wah, itu tidak mungkin!" protes pemuda itu.
"Aku tidak dapat mencabut pohon sebesar ini. Untuk memindahkannya diperlukan sebuah buldoser."
"Engkau benar sekali," Jawab orang tua itu.

Kebiasaan, entah baik ataupun buruk, sama seperti pohon-pohon itu. Kebiasaan yang belum berakar dalam seperti pohon yang masih sangat kecil, dapat dicabut dengan sangat mudah. Kebiasaan yang akarnya mulai mendalam seperti pohon yang sudah agak besar; untuk mencabutnya diperlukan usaha dan tenaga yang kuat.

Kebiasaan yang sudah sangat lama telah berakar sangat dalam, sehingga orang itu sendiri tidak bisa lagi mencabutnya. Jagalah dirimu agar kebiasaan yang sedang engkau tanamkan adalah kebiasaan-kebiasaan baik.

Coba ambil waktu dan selidiki hati Anda. Adakah kebiasaan buruk Anda yang masih sangat kecil tertanam di hati Anda? Adakah 'pohon' buruk yang sudah agak besar?

Yang lebih penting, adakah 'pohon' besar yang sudah tertanam begitu lama? Jika ada, carilah penyelesaian masalah atas kebiasaan buruk Anda. Tanya orang lain yang menurut Anda bisa dipercaya dan mampu menyelesaikan masalah.

Tidak hanya itu, berdoa kepada Tuhan merupakan obat bagi penyelesaian masalah Anda. Ubah sedikit demi sedikit perilaku yang buruk menjadi baik. Walau sesekali Anda gagal, terus ulangi. Dengan sikap ingin berubah yang total, Anda bisa membuang 'akar' jelek tersebut.

Harvard University dan Stanford University

Seorang wanita yang mengenakan gaun pudar menggandeng suaminya yang berpakaian sederhana dan usang, turun dari kereta api di Boston, dan berjalan dengan malu-malu menuju kantor Pimpinan Harvard University.

Mereka meminta janji.

Sang sekretaris Universitas langsung mendapat kesan bahwa mereka adalah orang kampung, udik, sehingga tidak mungkin ada urusan di Harvard dan bahkan mungkin tidak pantas berada di Cambridge.

"Kami ingin bertemu Pimpinan Harvard", kata sang pria lembut.

"Beliau hari ini sibuk," sahut sang Sekretaris cepat.

"Kami akan menunggu," jawab sang Wanita.

Selama 4 jam sekretaris itu mengabaikan mereka, dengan harapan bahwa pasangan tersebut akhirnya akan patah semangat dan pergi. Tetapi nyatanya tidak. Sang sekretaris mulai frustrasi, dan akhirnya memutuskan untuk melaporkan kepada sang pemimpinnya.

"Mungkin jika Anda menemui mereka selama beberapa menit, mereka akan pergi," katanya pada sang Pimpinan Harvard.

Sang pimpinan menghela nafas dengan geram dan mengangguk. Orang sepenting dia pasti tidak punya waktu untuk mereka. Dan ketika dia melihat dua orang yang mengenakan baju pudar dan pakaian usang di luar kantornya, rasa tidak senangnya sudah muncul.

Sang Pemimpin Harvard, dengan wajah galak menuju pasangan tersebut.

Sang wanita berkata padanya, "Kami memiliki seorang putra yang kuliah tahun pertama di Harvard. Dia sangat menyukai Harvard dan bahagia di sini.

Tetapi setahun yang lalu, dia meninggal karena kecelakaan.

Kami ingin mendirikan peringatan untuknya, di suatu tempat di kampus ini, bolehkan?" tanyanya, dengan mata yang menjeritkan harap.

Sang Pemimpin Harvard tidak tersentuh, wajahnya bahkan memerah. Dia tampak terkejut. "Nyonya," katanya dengan kasar, "Kita tidak bisa mendirikan tugu untuk setiap orang yang masuk Harvard dan meninggal. Kalau kita lakukan itu, tempat ini sudah akan seperti kuburan."

"Oh, bukan," Sang wanita menjelaskan dengan cepat,

"Kami tidak ingin mendirikan tugu peringatan. Kami ingin memberikan sebuah gedung untuk Harvard."

Sang Pemimpin Harvard memutar matanya. Dia menatap sekilas pada baju pudar dan pakaian usang yang mereka kenakan dan berteriak, "Sebuah gedung?!

Apakah kalian tahu berapa harga sebuah gedung ?! Kami memiliki lebih dari 7,5 juta dolar hanya untuk bangunan fisik Harvard."

Untuk beberapa saat sang wanita terdiam. Sang Pemimpin Harvard senang.

Mungkin dia bisa terbebas dari mereka sekarang.

Sang wanita menoleh pada suaminya dan berkata pelan, "Kalau hanya sebesar itu biaya untuk memulai sebuah universitas, mengapa tidak kita buat sendiri saja?" Suaminya mengangguk.

Wajah sang Pemimpin Harvard menampakkan kebingungan.

Mr. dan Mrs. Leland Stanford bangkit dan berjalan pergi, melakukan perjalanan ke Palo Alto, California, di sana mereka mendirikan sebuah Universitas yang menyandang nama mereka, sebuah peringatan untuk seorang anak yang tidak lagi diperdulikan oleh Harvard.

Universitas tersebut adalah Stanford University , salah satu universitas favorit kelas atas di AS.

Kita, seperti pimpinan Harvard itu, acap silau oleh baju, dan lalai. Padahal, baju hanya bungkus, apa yang disembunyikannya, kadang sangat tak ternilai. Jadi, janganlah kita selalu abai, karena baju-baju, acap kali menipu.

Saat Bertemu...

Saat bertemu penolongmu, Ingat untuk bersyukur padanya. Karena ialah yang mengubah hidupmu.Saat bertemu orang yang pernah kau cintai, Ingatlah dengan tersenyum untuk berterima-kasih. Karena ia lah orang yang membuatmu lebih mengerti tentang kasih.Saat bertemu orang yang pernah kau benci, Sapalah dengan tersenyum. Karena ia membuatmu semakin teguh/kuat.
Saat bertemu orang yang pernah mengkhianatimu, Baik-baiklah berbincanglah dengannya. Karena jika bukan karena dia, hari ini engkau tak memahami dunia ini.Saat bertemu orang yang pernah diam-diam kau cintai, Berkatilah dia. Karena saat kau mencintainya, bukankah berharap ia bahagia?
Saat bertemu orang yang tergesa-gesa meninggalkanmu, Berterima-kasihlah bahwa ia pernah ada dalam hidupmu. Jesus With You

When God called me, I'm just a '0' and I respons it. I came to Jesus and I stood next to Him. At that moment I made a discovery of my life, because I discovered that Jesus is the number '1', and when
I, as the zero stood next to Him, we are already 10.

And the other zero here (you) come and stand next to me, and we are already one hundred (100). Any more zeroes? 1000, 10.000, 100.000, 1.000.000, 10.000.000. And then i realised, Jesus puts value into every zero. I dont mind to be the last '0', because the last zero is the most valueable. 100.000.000 is more than a hundred (100).

As long as the '1' is in front, Jesus, we are all highly valueable. But take the '1' away, and we are all but zeroes again. This is how God calls, how He chooses. It's a secret that needs to be understood, doesn't matter who you are, what you are. Jesus makes
you valueable, highly valueable. He calls you, He equips you, He sends you, and He will be with you
all the way "right to the end of time, and to the end of the earth" -Rev. Reinhard Bonnke-

In The Morning

"In the morning, O Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait in expectation"

(Psalm 5:3, NIV).

In the Bible, David was called a man after God's own heart. He knew God and saw incredible miracles throughout his life. But notice in this verse what David did. He set the tone for His whole day by spending time with the Lord every morning. It didn't matter what was going on his life, David had his priorities set. Even though he was mistreated by his family, manipulated, made fun of, hunted down by King Saul, and even made some major mistakes on his own, David realized that each morning held the promise of new hope.

Just like David, if you'll make spending time with God a priority in your life, you will see Him move mightily on your behalf. Make it a habit to seek Him first every single day. No matter what is happening, seek Him in the morning. Let Him set the tone for your day and set you on the course for victory in every area of your life!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, I choose to put You first in everything that I do. I choose to set the tone of my day by starting it with You. Draw me close to You and empower me by Your Spirit to fulfill the dreams and destiny that You have placed within me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
